CRUDE UNIT [110,000 BPD]

The Crude Unit separates crude oil into its component parts by a heating process called distillation. Distillation separates the oil, a complex mixture of hydrocarbons, into petroleum fractions with different boiling ranges. These Fractions provide feedstock for other Plant units.

VACUUM UNIT [41,000 BPD]

The Vacuum unit takes a reduced crude stream from the Crude Unit and continues the distillation process without cracking a molecule by using a vacuum to lower the boiling point of the feed. Light yields, Gas Oils, are feed to the Gofiner and the heavy yields are feed to the Delayed Coker.

DELAYED COKING UNIT [18,500 BPD]

The Delayed Coking Unit produces gasoline and gas oil from the residue fractions produced at the Vacuum Unit. In a process called "thermal cracking" this heavy tar like residue (asphalt), under conditions of high temperature breaks down into lighter products. The heaviest residue of this process is petroleum coke.

GOFINER UNIT [45,000 BPD]

The Gofiner Unit removes sulfur compounds from the feed streams entering the FCCU. If not removed, these sulfur compounds would harm processing catalysts and could eventually produce air pollutants in finished products. The sulfur removal capabilities of the Gofiner Unit create greater flexibility in the types of crude oil the Plant runs, enhancing the Plant's competitive advantage in an environmentally responsible way.

FLUID CATALYTIC CRACKING UNIT (FCCU) [37,200 BPD]

The Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit sits in the heart of the Plant. It uses a powdery catalyst to convert heavy oils into more usable products. During the cracking process, gas oil is charged into a reactor where it contacts the hot catalyst, thereby initiating a reaction that cracks the heavy hydrocarbons into light hydrocarbons. The catalyst flows through the reactor at a rate of 25 tons per minute and may reach a temperature of 1,350 degrees F.

ALKYLATION UNIT [13,000 BPD]

The Alkylation Unit refines less usable oil products into high octane blending material (Alkylate). This high octane material is used primarily in the production of premium gasoline.

HYDROTREATING UNITS (HTUs) [#1-10,000 BPD, #2-24,000 BPD, #3-18,000 BPD, #4-18,000 BPD, #5-24,000 BPD; Total 94,000 BPD]

The HTUs use hydrogen produced by the HGUs & CRUs to remove sulfur and nitrogen from gasoline, diesel and jet fuel streams. Removal of these chemicals reduces the smog forming emissions of petroleum powered engines.

ISOMERIZATION UNIT [12,500 BPD]

The Isomerization Unit charges a low value pentane feed across a platinum catalyst to yield a high octane gasoline blend stock.

CATALYTIC REFORMING UNITS (CRUs) [CRU#1-7,500 BPD, CRU#2-22,000 BPD; Total 29,500 BPD]

Using a bimetallic catalyst, the CRUs raise the octane of naphtha (a low grade gasoline) for use in higher octane unleaded fuels and as an aromatic feedstock for the petrochemical units. Hydrogen is released in the catalytic reforming process and is routed to the HTUs and the Gofiner.

REFORMATE SPLITTERS [DeBenzenizer 20,000 BPD, DePentanizer 10,200 BPD]

The DeBenz and DePent take the yields from the CRUs and separates gasoline blend stocks from Aromatics.

AROMATIC RECOVERY UNIT [8,700 BPD]

Feed from the DePent is concentrated and extracted at the Benzene and Toluene columns into high value Aromatics, pure Benzene and high octane Toluene. Raffinate yields are further separated in the DeIsohexanizer into Isomerate feed or gasoline blend stocks.

SULFUR RECOVERY UNITS (SRUs) [Total 230 long tons/day (including Tail Gas Unit)]

Working in concert with a few smaller units, the SRUs convert Plant sour gases into elemental sulfur. This product is then sold for manufacturing purposes.

HYDROGEN GENERATING UNITS (HGUs) [#1-6 MMSCF, #2-35 MMSCF; Total 41 MMSCF]

The HGUs convert natural gas into hydrogen, which is needed for the Plant Hydrotreaters.

COGENERATION UNIT [Cogen 36 MW]

The Cogen unit uses Natural Gas to fuel a combustion gas turbine with waste heat generating steam and the turbine turns a generator creating electricity for the Plant.

AIR SEPARATION UNIT [4,750 MSCF]

Currently shutdown. The Air Separation Unit uses the Cogen turbine air discharge, or compressed air, and yields Oxygen and Nitrogen streams for Plant utility uses.

FLARE GAS RECOVERY UNIT

In development. The Flare Gas Recovery Unit will take what would be wasted flare gases, compresses them and feeds back to the Plant.
